As much as I love true vintage homeware and furnishings, they are often difficult to find here in Italy at a reasonable price. So to decorate and furnish our house, a big flat in Northern Italy, we chose mainly retro inspired items. I have compiled a wishlist of some things I’d like to get, and available online or in big stores.
I love spending time at home and I love decorating it. During the year I try and change some ornaments and furniture to make it always look “fresh”. Now that Christmas and the New Year are almost here, I have decorated the house with some vintage and retro looking ornaments.
Some people just buy a Van Gogh or Monet print from a department store and hang it in the living room. Other need something more thrilling. As much as I love Vincent and Claude’s works, they wouldn’t fit a mid century inspired apartment. I needed something more bright and bold, like those brilliant posters from the ’50s.
Decorating my house is one of the things I love the most: creating a comfortable and cosy atmosphere is important when we get home from a work day. Unfortunately American mid century items are expensive and difficult to find where I live. So I decided to add some gradually, and also add some affordable and DIY accents.
When I think about a retro home, I immediately imagine a bedroom with a beautiful vanity table. But I couldn’t find anything I liked when we moved to our new (and bigger!) house. That’s why I decided to purchase something easier to find, more affordable, and above all, something I could adjust to my atomic era taste!
